He was hanged for his role in the murder of Police Constable Billy Shiell during a robbery. It would appear William had taken to committing robberies with Vincent Ostler, to support his family. He claimed he did not know Ostler had a revolver, buyt this did not spare his life. Info provided to Mal and Sharon by Lorraine Appleby.
